Firstly, Thanks to you for the update, and on behalf of myself and the entire Crashday community, for running the masterserver.
I do have the "Russian Mods" in question, for compatability purposes and to try them, but Jane's Mods are the true mods for me. I presume the "Russian Mods" in question are also technically illegal, because they reverse engineer the game and breach copyright (Car names and songs).
When you say you have permission to distribute the game, are we to assume that permission to do so is exclusively yours?
Also, in case you aren't already aware (although I believe you are), Messenger shuts down soon - do you have or will you being planning on getting Skype or any other method of contact?

rus/eng.plain doesn't contain the value "1.8" using a search in np++, nor does the exe. unless it's buried in a dll file somewhere, or in an unreadable format?
The version is inside the executable, not into a text file. Also, the version can be changed in runtime without modifying the exe with a dll.
I presume the "Russian Mods" in question are also technically illegal, because they reverse engineer the game and breach copyright (Car names and songs).
Reverse engineering is not illegal, you don't breach any copiright as the "car and song names" are already visible to people.
I reversed the game a lot of times and I managed to find most of the vtable of the game such as CrashGUI, CDLocalize, CDString, CDRender, CDPlayerInfo, CDRaceInfo and a few things of CDNetwork. Robert Clemens didn't tell me anything about how the game works, cause copyrights I guess, but if you understand on your own how crashday is made there's nothing wrong, at least for my point of view.
I just installed this mod, and it tells me I am running 1.8.
It uses a launcher program, but this is not necesary to run the game.
NO! if the mod has a launcher there's should be a reason. Probably their dll needs to be injected in the game. If you don't use the launcher the game runs without the mod and you won't use it features or, even worse, the game will crash (same mistake you did for the kickmod). if the dll changes the version in runtime as you said, you can't even join to 1.8 servers since you're running the game directly from the exe, unless the mod has a dll called "d3d9.dll". In that case it gets autoinjected and you don't need to be worried about the launcher.
Between could you share the link to this "universal 1.8 mod" please? Looks interesting.

I think that just begin to use RichDutch master server, before this he used another crashday master server, there I could also see the game version 1.7-1.8 (in old versinos of universal mod)

It is the official server program that is given to JazwaPl and me from Crashday creator Robert Clemens ( Moon byte / Replay Studios ),
on condition not to copy or distribute.
I only obtained the " crashday.ath.cx " static ip adress/domain.
As far the "Universal" and "Forever" versions; the cause bugs, crashes and makes the game incompatible.
It would be good to tell people to use only the original Atari - Moon byte/ Replay Studios Crashday.
A few months ago Robert Clemens told me its okay to distribute Crashday as freeware; as long its not on commercial and too large base.
